Make your makeup last: The secret to long-lasting Lipstick
Nobody wants to be that girl who starts off the night with a dark red lip and ends the evening with just the outer lines outlined in red. For that reason, here are five steps to ensure long-lasting lipstick!
- Always use a lip primer!
From my personal experience, no chapstick can compare to a good lip primer. Lip primer is the perfect start to a long lasting lipstick. It’s non-oily and creates a smooth base before color application. Personally, I always use MAC’s Prep + Prime lip as my color free base, which although a little expensive, has become an essential part of my makeup routine.
- Outline with a lip pencil
Before applying your lip color, always use a lip pencil to trace your lips. Whether you choose a color of lip liner close to the color of lipstick you’ll be applying or just a shade that is close to your natural skin tone, this adds a layer of pigment to your lips to create a base for the lipstick to cling to.
- BLOT
By taking a tissue, folding it in half, placing it between your lips, and lightly pressing down, this is the best way to not only set lipstick, but get rid of excess lipstick.
- Powder
After blotting, and before applying another layer of color, always be sure to apply a thin layer of loose or pressed powder on your lips. Personally, I use Sonia Kashuk’s “Barely There Loose Powder”, as it is colorless, matte and can be found at most local Target stores.
